The short answer

  • HAF-QIN (sold as HAF-QIN/EXP) is one of Samsung's three fridge filter types, along with HAF-CIN and HAFCU1 [S2].
  • DA97-17376B is the replacement cartridge code for HAF-QIN/EXP, which is used in system model DA97-08006C [S3].
  • Samsung rates it for 300 gallons [S1][S3] and says to replace it every six months [S2].
  • NSF lists Samsung's HAF-QIN/EXP (DA97-17376B) under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 [S4][S6].
  • Samsung says the quickest way to know which filter you need is to read the model number on the filter already in your fridge [S2].

We read this list from our October 29, 2026 copy of Samsung's page. On November 2, 2026 the page loaded but its specs section did not render for us, so we could not re-check the list that night [S1]. Unverified Samsung's list includes one entry with an extra slash, "RF29A9675/**", next to "RF29A9675**"; we've kept Samsung's exact text rather than guess [S1]. If your model is close to one of these but doesn't match exactly, don't assume it fits. Check the filter in your fridge or contact Samsung [S2].

Certification: claim vs. listing

Samsung's support page says its water filters "meet NSF/ANSI standards 42, 53, and 401" [S2]. Its UK spec sheet for HAF-QIN/EXP lists NSF 42 and NSF 53 [S3].

We checked NSF's public listings on November 2, 2026. Searching the trade name HAF-QIN returned Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. listing system model "DA97-08006C" with trade names "HAF-QIN/EXP" and "DA97-17376B" as an integrated refrigerator filter under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401, with a rated service cycle of 316 gallons at 0.4 gpm [S4]. Searching the trade name DA97-17376B and the company name Samsung returned the same Samsung Electronics entry [S5][S6]. Open the live records to see the full list of claims: NSF's HAF-QIN search, NSF's DA97-17376B search and NSF's Samsung company search.

Two details to know:

  • Capacity. Samsung's pages say 300 gallons [S1][S3]; NSF's listing for the Samsung entry shows 316 gallons [S4]. We report both and haven't found a Samsung explanation for the difference. Unverified
  • HAF-QIN/XME. NSF also lists a Samsung "HAF-QIN/XME" (DA97-17376A, system model DA97-08006C-1) under NSF/ANSI 42, rated 300 gallons [S4][S6]. We found no Samsung source saying which fridges use it, so we don't treat it as interchangeable with HAF-QIN/EXP. Unverified

The DA97-17376B search also returns listings under other company names, including aftermarket filters that put "DA97-17376B" inside their own model numbers, and their claims vary [S5]. Before you buy a cheaper "DA97-17376B compatible" filter, search NSF for that exact model number. Don't rely on the Samsung part number printed on its box.

How to replace it (Samsung's steps)

For HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN filters [S2]:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Locate the filter, open the cover, and rotate the old filter counterclockwise to unlock and remove it.
  3. Remove the protection cap from the new filter, insert it into the housing, and turn clockwise until it locks. Line up the lock symbol with the indicator line.

Samsung's UK spec describes the installation as "90° Rotate and Lock" [S3]. Afterwards, Samsung says to dispense several gallons of water to clear out air and impurities, then reset the indicator [S2].

How to reset the filter light

Samsung says the light runs on a six-month timer and should be reset each time you install a new filter. The steps depend on the model [S2]:

  • Standard models: press and hold Filter Reset on the control panel for three seconds.
  • Family Hub: Apps → Fridge Manager → Fridge Settings → Water Filter → Reset.
  • Models with arrow buttons: go to More Options → Filter Reset.
  • RF4289 and RSG309: Settings → Water Filter, then hold Reset until the status changes.

Samsung also says that if the water flow changes a lot with and without the filter, you should consider replacing it whatever the light shows [S2]. Samsung UK adds that the filter light turns red when it's time to replace the filter, and that a date sticker comes inside every cartridge package [S3].

Samsung's position on third-party filters

Samsung's support page tells owners to "Avoid third-party water filters as they may cause leaks and potentially damage your refrigerator" [S2]. Samsung UK warns about "other brands or imitations with cheaper price and claiming compatibility with Samsung filters" [S3]. Take that into account, along with your warranty terms, if you're weighing a cheaper filter.

Common questions

Is DA97-17376B the same filter as HAF-QIN?

Samsung's UK spec sheet gives DA97-17376B as the replacement cartridge code for HAF-QIN/EXP, used in system model DA97-08006C [S3], and NSF lists Samsung's HAF-QIN/EXP under the same numbers [S4].

Can I use HAF-QIN in place of HAF-CIN?

Samsung says its three filter types are HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN and HAFCU1, and to check the model number on the filter already in your fridge to know which one you need [S2].
